A fishy tale
From time to time we are asked to move some unusual items as part of our removals service – none more so than a huge aquarium cabinet (plus fish!).
The house move from Caversham to Sonning Common needed some careful preparation before we could put our plan into action on the day of the move.
The clients had warned us that the built-in aquarium weighed in excess of 60KG and included a sophisticated water filtration system.
So on the morning of the move, four of us arrived on site with a set of specialist wheels plus metres and metres of shrink wrap and bubble wrap to protect the prize possession. Double layers of each were used to cover up the glass structure.
We spent around 30 minutes of the three hour load and two hour unload specifically managing the aquarium move and installation.
The four of us lifted the unit together at each end of the removals journey along with the elaborate filtration system – and left the owners to manage the fish in a separate tank for transportation. We’re delighted to report that all 25 of them survived the experience!
Lindsay’s Removals MD Sam (CHECK SURNAME/TITLE) said: ‘This job certainly got us thinking! The aquarium wasn’t the biggest item we’ve ever moved but it was certainly one of the trickiest. The glass made it fragile but the weight of the water – and the fact it was constantly moving – made it awkward to manoeuvre.
‘But we’ve learnt in this job not to let anything phase us so we just went for old fashioned manual heavy lifting and help from a set of wheels.
‘It was a big responsibility but careful planning ahead of the moving day paid off and we got everything, aquarium and fish, to their new home safely.’
Lindsay’s enjoy an excellent reputation for customer care and attention to detail.
