Logging on
Anyone who has read the infamous chidren’s book The Gruffalo will understand the significance of a log pile house.
Well, recently we were presented with our own version of author Julia Donaldson’s creation (minus her inhabitant, the snake, I’m pleased to say!) – and we had to find a way to move it.
The sizeable log store at a house in Caversham, Berkshire, featured as part of a house move to nearby Sonning Common.
The store was jammed to the rafters with cut logs ready for fires throughout the long winter months and, naturally, the owners did not want to part with this commodity they had spent time and money stocking up.
The removal team had to remove all the logs – several hundred at a quick guesstimate – at the old property, and stack them and the storage structure on the van for the move.
Once at the new property, we had to undertake a slight rebuild of the store before carefully piling the logs back in.
Lindsay’s MD Nikki West explained: ‘This was a slightly unusual request but, as always, we were happy to have detailed conversations with the client about what they envisaged happening to their possession and then come up with an appropriate plan of action.
‘It took a bit of time taking out armfuls of logs at one end and putting them all back in a similar order at the other end, but it’s one of those activities that keeps us fit!
‘Jobs like this show the flexibility we have for our work and how we will adapt our standard removals routine to accommodate different requests.
‘Once again, the customer was delighted with our approach and can do attitude – and we found another new skill we can add to our credentials!’
If you have a slightly unusual request about your house move, or want to discuss the safe transfer of a particular possession, get in touch and we’ll happily talk through options.
